The Google Data Liberation team has announced this week that it is now possible to download Gmail chat logs via IMAP. Email was already accessible with IMAP, but chat was stuck.
Under the 'Labels' tab in Gmail settings, there is now a 'Show in IMAP' checkbox next to 'Chats' that will deliver chat logs to your email client of choice.
